Passion Fruit Sangria
(Makes About 12 Cups)
I was preparing to make a White Peach Sangria on Martha Stewart's TV show when I realized I had no white peaches. Martha suggested using passion fruit instead, and it was a great idea, giving the drink a flavor that is a little sweet, a little tangy.
- Ingredients:
- 2 bottles dry white wine (sauvignon blanc or Spanish alvarino)
- 3/4 cup brandy
- 1/2 cup triple sec or other orange liqueur
- 3/4 cup simple syrup (see Note 1)
- 3/4 cup passion fruit puree (see Note2)
- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- 3 oranges, sliced into thin rounds
- 2 lemons, sliced into thin rounds
- 3 green apples, cored and thinly sliced
- 1 cup blackberries, sliced into halves
- Directions:
- Combine all the ingredients in a large pitcher and refrigerate, covered, 2 hours to 2 days.
- Serve over ice.
- Note 1: To make simple syrup, cook equal parts of sugar and water over low heat until clear.
- Boil for 1 minute.
- Note 2: Passion fruit puree and juice are available at Asian and Hispanic markets and some supermarkets.
