Holiday Dressing
My mom never made stuffing; she always prepared what we called "dressing" on the side in a large roasting pan. I've taken Mama's wonderful dressing recipe and updated it to suit my current lifestyle. At my house the dressing is no longer a side dish; it has become the center of many family meals.
- Ingredients:
- 2 pans cornbread, crumbled
- 1/2 loaf bread, toasted and crumbled
- 1/4 package saltine crackers, crumbled
- 2-1/2 cups vegetable broth
- 3 large onions, diced
- 4 ribs celery, diced
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 stick margarine
- 1 Tbl. sage
- Directions:
- Boil vegetables in broth 15 to 20 minutes or until tender.
- Allow to cool enough to handle.
- Add all additional ingredients to vegetables and broth.
- Mix well.
- Put mixture into a large, flat baking dish.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown and set in the middle.
- When a straw inserted at the center comes out clean, the dressing is done.
